    How do I create, edit and delete items on Horizon?

    Creating Items
    Horizon is like any other library automation system in that you need to have item (holdings) records to circulate individual items on the system.

    To create an item record in Horizon:

    1.  Go to the Staff PAC (Press F2 or select Searching/New Search from the Navigation Bar on the left side of the Horizon screen.)
    2.  Search for a bib record that you want to create an item for.  In the search results, highlight the record that you want to review.
    3. Press F10 or the "Send to" button at the top of the screen.            
    4. Highlight "Marc Editor" on the "Send to" list. Click OK.
    5. Review the MARC record to make sure that it matches the item that you have in hand.
    6.  Press F10 or the "Send to" button at the top of the screen.
    7. Highlight "Copy/Item List" on the "Send to" list. Click OK.
    8. You should now see a list of existing items that are associated with the bib record that you have just reviewed. Click on New to create a new Item record. The following fields are required on the Item record:
        
        a. Barcode
        b. Location - this code will represent an individual library
        c. Collection - this corresponds very closely to the Location code in CARL.
        d. iType - this code will typically drive loan periods for items    
        e. Status - enter t for In Process. You cannota ssign a status of Checked-in at this point.
                 
    9. Click on Save.
    10. When you are ready to send item(s) to the shelves, you will need to use Circulation to put them through Check-in. This process will pick up any requests (holds) that have been placed on the item.

    Editing Items
    There are at least two ways that you can display and edit an item record in Horizon:

    1.  Through PAC

        a.  Go to the Staff PAC (press F2 or select Searching/New Search from the Navigation menu on the left side of the Horizon screen.)
        b.  Search for the bib record that you want to create an item for.  In the search results, highlight the record that you want to review.
        c. Press F10 or the "Send to" button at the top of the screen.
        d.  Highlight "Item/Copy List" on the "Send to" list. Click OK.
        e.  The Copy/Item List will list all of the existing items for that title in the system.
        f.  Highlight the item that you want to edit. Click the Edit button.
        g.  Make the necessary changes to the item record.
        h. Click Save.
     
    2.   Through Cataloging.

        a. On the Navigation Bar (the list of folders on theleft side of the screen), double-click on the folder for Cataloging.
        b. Next, double-click on the folder labeled "Item Record."
        c. Double-click on the option for "Item Barcode Lookup."
        d. Type in or scan the barcode for the item that you want to edit.
        e. At this point, Horizon displays the item list for all items that are associated with the title. An arrow should be pointing at the item number that you scanned.
        f. Click on the Edit button.
        g. Make the necessary changes to the item record.
        h. Click Save.

    Deleting Items
    There are also at least two ways to delete an item record in Horizon.

    1.  Through PAC

        a. Go to the Staff PAC (Press F2 or select Searching/New Search from the Navigation Bar on the left side of the Horizon screen.)
        b.  Search for the bib record that you want to create an item for. In the search results, highlight the record that you want to review.
        c. Press F10 or the "Send to" button at the top ofthe screen.
        d.  Highlight "Item/Copy List" on the "Send to" list. Click OK.
        e.  Highlight the item that you want to delete.
        f.  From the File menu, select Delete Record.
        g. Click on OK to Delete.

    2.   Through Cataloging

        a. On the Navigation Bar (the list of folders on the left side of the screen), double-click on the folder for Cataloging.
        b. Next, double-click on the folder labeled "Item Record"
        c. Double-click on the option for "Item Barcode Lookup"
        d. Type in or scan the barcode for the item that you want to delete
        e. At this point, Horizon displays the item list for all items that are associated with the title. An arrow should be pointing at the item number that you scanned.
        f.  Highlight the item that you want to delete.
        g.  From the File menu, select Delete Record.
        h. Click on OK to Delete.
