Telephone Directory Practice Questions

Most of these questions can be answered using your local directory.

Include the answer, the source, and the page number you found the answer on.

  1. Name and date of the directory you are using to answer these questions:

  2. What is the time difference between Minnesota and Lexington, Kentucky?

  3. The number to call for help with preparing your Federal income tax return? (Note: "800"- toll free numbers change frequently. Remind your patrons they can call the 800 information operator at 800-555-1212 for current toll free numbers.)

  4. The patron says she wants to buy a sump pump. Can you suggest a possible place for her to call? What did you look under?

  5. Where can you find a list of local elementary schools?

  6. What is the area code for Lutsen, Minnesota?

  7. Local telephone directories can be used to find some non-local numbers. Using your directory, try to find a listing for an out of town business. One heading to try in the Yellow Pages is "Hotels and Motels Out of Town Reservations." What company did you find?

  8. What subject heading would you use in the yellow pages to find pressure washing equipment? How did you find it?
