PoemFinder

Poem Finder on the Web contains over 100,000 full-text poems including over 10,000 copyrighted poems and 800,000 poem citations and excerpts. Features include a Subject Navigator, Year's Best Poetry Anthology (New Poems), Kids' Korner, Explanations, Biographies, Pictures, and a Glossary. Poem Finder is the largest, most comprehensive and most current poetry database available. It is international in scope, and covers poetry from antiquity to the present.

Searching

To search PoemFinder using the basic search, type your term(s) in the Search for box and click on Go! A list of poems and article titles with your search terms will appear.

Click on the Poem Title or Article Title to view the citation, or the full text of the poem or article, if available. Poem Titles with the symbol T next to them are available in full text. Check the Reference List at the end of the poem or citation to view information about the anthologies that the poem is included in. Click on the Anthology Title for detailed information about the anthology. Citations and full text articles can be printed, e-mailed, or saved to a disk.

To search PoemFinder using the advanced search, click on the Advanced Search radio button and type your search into the Search box. Type related terms, if any, in the second and third Search for boxes. Use the drop down menus next to Search in to select specific categories. All selections for a particular search must be from the same group of categories: Poem, Author, or References. Click on and, or, or but not operator to connect your search terms. Click on Go! A list of poems and article titles with your search terms will appear.

To search PoemFinder using the Subject Navigator, click on the Subject Navigator radio button. Subject Navigator allows you to search for poems grouped together into 7,000 subject headings, arranged from the most general to the most specific. Click on a search category. Scroll down the screen and click on a sub-category. Scroll down the list displayed and click on a sub-category. A list of poems and article titles with your subject category will appear.

To search PoemFinder using the Advanced Search, use "and" between two search terms to combine concepts. Articles retrieved will contain both search terms. Use "or" between two search terms to expand a search. Articles retrieved will contain either one of the search terms. Use "but not" between search terms to exclude the second term from the search.

Printing

Display article on screen. Click on File. Click on Print. Click on OK.

E-Mailing

Display article on screen. Click on: File. Click on: Send Page. Enter your e-mail address. Click on: Send.

Saving to Disk

Display article on screen. Click on File. Click on Save As. Choose the Drive where you want to save the article file. Give your file a name. In the Save as type box, choose the .txt option. Click on Save.
