You will be learning how to use some of the most important reference books in this course.
Once you have determined the real information need, you will discover many of the answers your patrons need in your own library. There are always times for every library, however, when you won't have the information needed.
You then should refer the question to your headquarters library or backup reference service if needed. In Minnesota, there is a very effective backup reference network in existence to make sure that the information needs of all citizens can be met, no matter where they live, or who they are.
The only way to take advantage of the network is for a question to be referred by you when your library doesn't have the resources needed.
Don’t say “No,” think "Yes"!
