- Do you have a hospital library near you that you can consult? Which one is it?
- A patron has come in and asked you for information on scoliosis.
a. Can you find a definition of this using the tools you have in your branch? (Don't forget general dictionaries and encyclopedias.) Where did you find it? If you didn't, where did you look?
b. If you have it, try READERS' GUIDE or an online periodical resource like General Reference Center Gold for this topic. What is the most recent citation you can find?
c. If the patron wanted more information than you have in your branch, what additional information should you get from her before you would forward the question (refer to the guidelines for help)?
- A patron has called on the phone and asked you for information about what kinds of things to do to improve a high blood pressure condition. She says that she knows diet helps, but thinks there are other things she should do as well. How can you best help her?
- You have just reminded a patron that the library can't promise that the medical information it has is the most accurate that is available. What else do you need to remind her of?
The next questions are based on specific medical books. If you don't have that book in your branch, check with your supervisor about how you should handle the questions.
