The MORE Manual has two sections. The first section covers REFERENCE SERVICE. The focus in this section includes the core values of reference service, particularly in the public library, patrons and patron behavior, and the reference interview. You will find information ranging from the reference interview, to tips on working with children, to cataloging and classification basics, to legal aspects of library work.
The second section covers REFERENCE SOURCES. Beginning with a discussion of search strategies, this section includes information on basic reference sources, both print and electronic. There are practice sheets and answer keys of reference resources in different subject areas. We have also included a Tiered List of Basic Resources , both print and electronic, that constitute a core collection of reference sources.
You can use the MORE Manual in many different ways, but we suggest starting with the section on reference service skills and then working through the reference sources . Make use of the practice sheets to improve your information service skills and improve referral effectiveness.
