This quarterly updated online encyclopedia contains full-text articles from the 29-volume print resource, New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, 2nd edition. It covers all aspects of classical and popular music including musical styles, terms, genres, and instruments as well as biographies of composers and performers. The online version also includes links to images, digital sound, and Internet sites. Topics range from prehistory to the present day.

Searching

Article Search: This type of search looks for your search term(s) in article titles only. Type a word or phrase in the Article Search box that always appears at the top left-hand side of every page. Use double quotation marks around phrases. After entering your search term(s), click on Go or hit Enter on the keyboard.

Full Text Search: This type of search looks at the entire text of articles in grovemusic.com. To begin, click on Search. Then type a word or phrase in the empty search box. Remember to use double quotation marks around phrases
