Books in Print

Books in Print is a database of millions of books, audios and videos currently available, soon to be released, or out of print. It includes a directory of publishers, Children’s Books in Print and full text reviews from several sources.

Once you have selected Books in Print you will be at the search screen for that database. The easiest way to search for a particular item is to enter words in the Quick Search box. It automatically looks for Keywords, unless you use the pull-down menu to search for Author, Title, or ISBN number. Click on Submit after you have entered your information.

The Search button at the top of the screen allows you to refine your search by format or any combination of 30 criteria, including language, fictitious character, and Dewey Decimal number. You can limit results by such options as price range and publication date. Other buttons at the top of the screen:

You may also browse by subject or within the different indexes by clicking on the links below the Quick Search on the main search page.

Other features on the Books in Print search screen are a Forthcoming Book Room and Children’s Room, limiting your search to those databases, and a readers’ advisory tool called Bowker’s Fiction Room. “Bowker’s Free Areas” includes information on the book industry in Bowker’s Book Wire, and Publishers’ Homepages. Other helpful links are to ulrichsweb.com, a serials database of nearly 250,000, and Literary Market Place, “the bible of the book industry.”

At any screen you may click on the Help icon to find out more about the different features of the database.
