The Grand Rapids Area Library welcomes St. Paul author and 2009 Minnesota Book Award nominee, Greg Breining, as a guest speaker on Thursday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. Breining's newest book, "A Hard Water World" looks at the fun world of ice fishing, not only in Minnesota, but also in far-flung corners of the world.
In an hour of conversation and questions, Breining will attempt to answer life's really difficult questions: What distinguishes Northerners from Southerners? Is a man's ice-house really his castle? Why do people prefer catching walleyes to catching eelpout? And why do we ice-fish?
He has written more than a dozen books about science, travel, and nature, including many about Minnesota. His articles and essays have appeared in The New York Times, Audubon, National Geographic Traveler and many other national and regional publications. (Additional information about Greg Breining and his writing is available atwww.gregbreining.com.)
Other fishing events and displays will be featured at the library during October. Check out this website for more information.
This program Greg Breining is supported by the Minnesota Book Awards
through grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in
conjunction with State Library Services, a division of the Minnesota
Department of Education, and the Minnesota Library Foundation.
