Time Periods for Completion
Participants in the Certification Pilot Program will finish Certification
Level 1 by December 2001. Individuals may petition the Certification
Oversight Committee for extension beyond that date. Approved by the CLIME
Committee, October 13, 2000. Re-affirmed by the Certification Oversight Committee, February 21, 2001.
Participants beyond the Pilot Program must register at the first workshop they attend for Voluntary Certification and complete Level 1 Certification within four years of that date. Individuals may petition the Certification Oversight Committee for extension beyond that date. Approved by the Certification Oversight Committee, June 7, 2002.
Readers for the Portfolio
Each Certification Level 1 portfolio is to be reviewed by two readers. It
is recommended that the second reader be from a different type of library.
Approved by the CLIME Committee, August 25, 2000.
Maintaining Certification Status
Certification remains effective for 5 years. There are two
options for keeping certification effective. (1) At the end of 5
years, participants must have completed 25 contact hours of
learning opportunities. For each learning activity, a certificate of
attendance, a transfer of learning form, and a one-page summary relating
the learning to their job must be presented. One copy should be sent to
the Regional Library System Contact and a second copy should be sent to
the Chair of the Certification Oversight Committee. Completing this work will renew Certification for 5
additional years from the date certified. (Example: if you received your certification in June, 2000, your certification will be good
until June 2005. Then if you complete the 25 additional
contact hours of learning opportunities, your certification is good until
June 2010). OR (2) At the end
of 5 years, participants must have enrolled in Career Renewal. (Enrollment
means having a Career Renewal Plan with a timeline approved by the CLIME
Committee). Approved by the Certification Oversight Committee, June 7,
2002.
At the end of 10 years from the date of completion of Certification, participants must have completed a self-evaluation of needs and an additional 25 contact hours of learning opportunities focused on these needs. For each learning activity, a certifice of attendance and a transfer of learning form must be presented. In addition, the self-evaluation of needs must be included with the attendance and transfer of learning forms. Send these to the Chair of the Certification Oversight Committee. Completing this work will renew Certification for 5 additonal years. (Example: if you received Certification in June 2000, your certification will be good until June 2005. Then if you complete the 25 additional contact hours of learning opportunities, your certification will be good until June 2010. Then if you complete the self-assessment and the 25 additional contact hours on focused on your needs, your certification will be good until June 2015). Approved by the Certification Oversight Committee, May 12, 2005.
The example in the new policy of May 12, 2005, repeats the example in the first policy of June 7, 2002, to protect a Certification Graduate who may have graduated in 2000 and renewed her certification in 2002 from being penalized for being an organized over-achiever. (At the Certification Oversight Committee Meeting in 2002, we had a long discussion that someone who graduated in 2000, her certification would be good until 2005, and re-certification would be good until 2010, even if she renewed her certification in 2002.)
Contact Hours
At least 45 contact hours are to be gained via CLIME approved
worshops. Approved by the CLIME Committee, February 4, 2000. Re-affirmed by the Certification Oversight Committee, February 21, 2001.
Signing Off on Competencies
The supervisor or the mentor should sign off on competencies. If
neither is possible, the individual should contact the Certification
Steering Committee Member in their Regional System. Approved by the CLIME
Committee, August 25, 1998.
