    Arrowhead Library System Governing Board

Charged with the responsibilities of fiscal oversight and policy-setting, the Governing Board of the Arrowhead Library System consists of twenty-four representatives of the region's citizens and member public libraries. Local library boards in each of the seven member counties elect a total of fourteen local trustees to the ALS Board. The Board of Commissioners from each of the seven participating counties appoint a total of nine citizens to the ALS Board. As per Minnesota Statutes, terms of office are from three years, with a limit of three consecutive three-year terms. Terms start July 1 of a given year.

The ALS Governing Board has an Executive Committee consisting of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Parliamentarian. Officers are elected at the Annual Meeting in May of each year. Much of the work of the Governing Board is delegated to eight standing committees: the Annual Meeting Committee; the Buildings & Grounds Committee; the Budget & Evaluation Committee; the Finance Committee; the Long Range Planning Committee; the Nominating Committee; the Personnel Committee; and the Policy & Bylaws Committee.  The membership of three of the Committees (Budget & Evaluation, Long Range Planning, and Policy & Bylaws) is supplemented by representatives from the Arrowhead System Council of Library Directors (ASCOLD).

The ALS Governing Board meets the second Thursday of each month. Except for the Annual Meeting in May of each year, the Governing Board meetings start at 10:00 a.m. and are preceded by an Executive Committee meeting.
